Budleigh Salterton Health Centre Charity

The objective of the Charity is to relieve sickness and preserve health amongst persons permanently or temporarily resident in the catchment area of Budleigh Salterton Medical Centre or any legal successors thereof.  In practical terms the Charity provides equipment and facilities for the direct benefit of patients over and above that which is normally found in routine medical practice.

The Charity was inaugurated in 1996. At that time the Medical Centre was being extensively modernised at a substantial cost. The Charity provided the technical equipment to support the scheme together with the facilities within the minor surgical unit and the décor within the new Medical Centre. The Charity was most generously supported by the Norman Family Charitable Trust, the Charles Shorto Charitable Trust and the Lindsay-Fynn Charitable Trust and by many other individual donations.  In 2003 the Medical Centre was extended to provide increased accommodation for two additional doctors. The Health Centre Charity and the Charles Shorto Charitable Trust were the main benefactors for this project. Technical equipment has been upgraded to keep pace with modern advances and the Charity has been pleased to sponsor this facility. As a consequence we now have in Budleigh Salterton one of the most modern well equipped and comfortable Medical Centres in the South West.

The Charity is justifiably proud of its contriubtion to the welfare of the residents of our town and surrounding visitors.  The Trustees working in close liaison with the doctors and nurses at the Medical Centre, meet quarterly to prioritise and distribute funds at the request of the Practice. The Charity is completely dependant upon voluntary contributions and is open to receive additional funds which will always be acknowledged. There is a specific box within the Medical Centre where donations may be safely left, or contributions can be sent directly to the Treasurer at the Medical Centre, 1 The Lawn, Budleigh Salterton, EX9 6LS.

The Trustees would like to express their immense gratitude for the magnificent level of support they have received over the years, without which the Medical Centre could not have been modernised to its present high standard. 

The current Chairperson of the Health Centre Charity is Mr Philip Griffin.
